Like many headphone enthusiasts, I’ve often wished there was an available cable design with a connector at the Y-split and a separate cable running from the Y-split to the amp. This setup would allow you to easily disconnect the cable at the Y-split when switching headphones, enabling you to use the same main cable across different pairs.
However, the challenge has been finding a lightweight, compact, and durable connector that is compatible with balanced amps and stays securely connected. I have considered getting something custom made using the newer 4.4 mm Pentaconn plug, but now Dekon Audio has introduced a more compact and secure solution with their own system: a lockable, balanced 2.5 mm TRRS plug at the Y-split.
Dekoni Audio calls their system “Ensemble cables.” It comes in two qualities: the standard “Blue Nylon” and the more costly “Silver Braided.”
There are three options on the Y-split for the headphone side: the widely used dual 3.5mm, the Audeze-type dual 4-pin Mini-XLR, and the Sennheiser HD600-type dual 2-pin.
There are two lengths available for the main wire: 1.3 m = 4 feet 4 inches (52″) and 1.6 m = 5 feet 4 inches (64″). I would have hoped for longer cable options, but hopefully Dekoni Audio will cater to such needs in the future.
The new cable system from Dekoni Audio will be available for pre-order on September 27th from dekoniaudio.com. The prices will range from $120 to $165.
