Many audio gear manufacturers are entering the full-size headphone market, and budget-friendly brand Fosi Audio is joining in with the upcoming i5.
I recently reviewed their newest external soundcard-type DAC/Amp the Fosi K7, and I was thoroughly impressed.
The new Fosi i5 headphones feature large planar magnetic drivers with 97mm diaphragms just 2 microns thick. Their size enhances the potential for dynamics, while the ultra-thin design should contribute to low distortion and a high detail level. Fosi further claims that their employed sputtering tech, which applies an atom-thin coating on the diaphragm, will make for a more uniform and responsive diaphragm.
Acoustic damping chambers are employed to reduce resonance and vibrations, hopefully enhancing both clarity and tonal accuracy. With 44 powerful N50 neodymium magnets, the i5 aims to ensure a stable magnetic field for greater efficiency and control.
The housing and headband are seemingly well-designed, with Fosi promising skin-friendly, breathable memory foam earpads. The flexible yet durable “memory” metal headband retains its shape while adapting to different users. It also features stepless silicone adjustment, likely using friction technology for smooth, precise fitting.
The I5 Planar Magnetic Headphones will be available for pre-order on Kickstarter on 20th April. I’ll get a sample in for review shortly and look forward to seeing how the i5 delivers on its promises. Stay tuned!
