SIMGOT EW300 vs. LETSHUOER S08 Comparison Review

September 6, 2024 7 Min Read

Simgot’s $69 EW300 is a new tri-brid IEM featuring a 10mm dynamic driver for bass and midrange, combined with a 6mm planar magnetic driver and a piezoelectric driver for the treble. Its rated impedance is 28 Ohms and the sensitivity 121 dB. It has a compact metal housing.

Also launched in 2024, the $99 S08 from Letshuoer is a planar magnetic single-driver IEM with a newly developed 13mm “fourth-generation” planar magnetic driver. Like the EW300 or features a CNC-machined metal housing. The S08 has a sensitivity of 105 dB, and an impedance of 26 ohms.

COMPARISONS

Depak Ine by John Talabot

On this electronic music track, both the S08 and EW300 offer a solid bass and somewhat dark presentation with an intimate soundstage. However, the EW300 stands out with its more dynamic sound and punchier bass, making it particularly well-suited for the genre’s energetic and rhythmic elements.

Never Forget The Good Ones by Solveig Slettahjell

The vocals are warmer and thicker with the EW300, the soundstage is wider and more open with the S08. I also find the S08 to offer more detail overall.

Vivaldi 4 Seasons, Winter I by The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra

Both earphones deliver a pleasing sound with warm tonality and good texture on the strings. The S08, however, offers a bit more airiness, enhancing the sense of space and openness.

Compare Manuel by Vincente Amigo

I really like this accompanied flamenco guitar track. The S08 offers a more airy and open sound, with a drier and crisper quality. In contrast, the EW300 provides a thicker, lusher tone, giving a more intimate listening experience.

Muggen Fallskjerm by Jøkleba

This dynamic impro jazz piece sounds great. The EW300 features punchier bass, a thicker midrange, and darker treble. In comparison, the S08 offers a more open sound with a drier texture.

Digging in the Dark by Jørn Øien Trio

The slow piano jazz trio sounds warm and pleasant with the EW300. The S08 is great too, and provides a clearer, crisper tonality with more air and superior imaging.

Like Suicide by Soundgarden

The EW300 features stronger bass and a thicker, darker sound with more coloration. In contrast, the S08 offers more air and treble, with a more neutral tuning.

WRAPPING IT UP

Sounds Signature

The sound signatures are fairly similar, both leaning towards a warmish neutral to dark profile. However, the EW300 offers a warmer midrange with a thicker bass response, whereas the S08 is slightly crisper and brighter in its presentation.

Treble

The treble of the EW300 is smooth and rounded, with a darker tone that’s very non-offensive. In contrast, the S08 has a brighter, airier treble, which enhances detail retrieval and creates a more open soundstage.

Midrange

In the midrange, the EW300 is thicker and lusher, while the S08 has a drier tonality with more texture but slightly less body.

Bass

Although the planar magnetic S08 delivers great bass, the EW300 outshines it, being more dynamic and punchy, with slightly more power and impact.

Soundstage and Imaging

The EW300 features an intimate soundstage with decent imaging, while the S08 offers a more airy and open soundstage, along with better layering and imaging capabilities.

Detail and Dynamics

In terms of overall detail retrieval, the S08 stands out as the better performer. It presents finer textures, making details easier to discern. The EW300, on the other hand, conveys details in a more subtle, more rounded manner.

However, when it comes to dynamics, the EW300 takes the lead, particularly in the bass region, where it definitely surpasses the already impressive S08.

CONCLUSION

The Letshuoer S08 and the Simgot EW300 have much in common and are both great value offerings. The tonality and timbre are relatively similar between them, as both have a warmish sound signature. The EW300 leans even more in that direction than the S08, with a thick, warm, and lush timbre across the frequency spectrum. In comparison, the S08 is somewhat brighter, crisper, and drier, but I still find it to be the more neutral-sounding of the two. I will not say that one is better than the other; they are different flavors.
